St. Augustine University of Tanzania is a private university established in 1998 under the auspices of the Catholic Church. From the outset, it has targeted the poorer populations and less developed regions in the country. The main university campus is near the city of Mwanza in the north-west of the country on the shores of Lake Victoria; there are other constituent colleges at thirteen different locations across the country. The university’s mission is to provide high quality education, research, and public service and to prepare graduates equipped to contribute to the ideals of social, economic and political justice and development.
